White room, Cue Cards and Ideas. (26th October)

Today was officially, what felt like our first rehearsal. We managed to get into the white room, although this wasn't actually booked as the person who was meant to do it forgot. It was also the first time Sarah was, thankfully, well enough to come to our rehearsal! The first part of the session was basically us discussing through with Sarah what Niki had spoke to us about and where we want the piece to go etc. We were all very excited but then the daunting realisation came that we actually had to get up on our feet and do some practical work!

In preparation for the lesson I had to put together some written work and narratives that we could have a play around with; focussing on the key elements we had discussed from the last meeting.

As Niki suggested we decided to write down all of our idea's onto cue cards so that we could get some sort of order and work on them practically. Idea's people had brought included t
  • I'm going to tell you a story
  • Giving them sound then take them away
  • Narrative of sound and sound movement (gym thing),
  • Charlie chaplin sequence
  • Circuit idea
  • Can you see me questions
  • Story 2 on feelings (deafness)
  • Importing feelings of being blind (bright light blinding audience)
  • Physical attributes of signing
  • Performing a song without sound

After this, the first one that cropped up was giving the audience sound then taking it away from them. Kane again put on Gymnopedie by Eric Satie and I began to just hum over the top of it for fun. Everyone thought it sounded really nice and so Jack began to hum over the top of that. Kane then had the idea, focussing on denying the audience of something, that we could have something sound really beautiful then completely abuse or ruin it. He started clanging over the top of it and him and Sarah started making really loud noises; they were recreating what it felt like outside when we were blind when we were all overstimulated by noises.

We then had a discussion on how we could incorporate the idea of doing a performance in pitch black and then having an audio description in it afterwards. I think this could be quite comical as you could have someone making a simple sound, then it could turn out they were balancing on a spoon with there thumb! Possibilities are endless!

Unfortunatly, Jack had to go for rehearsals and Kane had a workshop to go to so we called a day and arranged a meeting for the Thursday session.
