There was a slight miscommunication due to the internet of when we were meeting up with Niki, so we decided to go in a classroom and try and talk through it as there was no rehearsal space! We had a bit of creative tension with the idea as it all seemed a little confusing and we still didn't know what the main intention was. As we couldn't move forward with the piece we decided to see if there was someone in the office we could quickly have a chat with about it.
Anna kindly spoke to us for half an hour on the piece. Her conclusion was, which I agree with, that there were far to many issues in one performance; it seemed a bit all over the shop and it would be completely overwhelming to an audience for no real point. I think this does explain why we have been struggling so much in rehearsals as we seem to be skimming over the surface of lots of problems instead of really focussing and homing in on one specific idea! As the piece seemed to be centred around the deaf boy we thought we could select this thread and really make deafness the focal point of the piece.
With a meeting arranged with Niki the next day we went home and decided to go to bed with fresh minds so that we could start with a clean slate. Its hard when you all get fixated on an idea to sometimes let it go and move onto something else but I feel we are touching on a good point and will eventually find it! Anna also suggested we home and watched the 'Science of Sleep' so I purchased it on youtube to watch the following day.
